July 2020 Meeting Recap
Wow, it has been a strange year, hasn’t it? But 100 Women Michiana are still here, and we are still working to make a difference in the Michiana area. While we had to cancel our April meeting, we did meet in person (with all the appropriate social distancing and CDC guidelines followed) for July. And in keeping with the strange year, it was a delightfully strange meeting as well.
Only three people nominated a charity, and all three of them nominated the YWCA of Northern Indiana. So, as you can probably guess, we really did not have to vote on it. It was a lovely and laugh out loud moment, and we could not be happier to be giving to the YWCA for the third quarter of 2020.
Here is a little info about the YWCA: The YWCA has been a leading advocate for women and children in our community for over 100 years. Through a combination of service and social action, they reach out to women who are seeking solutions to abusive situations, who are fighting chemical dependency, who are in need of job training or education, and who want to improve their lives for themselves and their children. It is through all those things that they live up to their mission statement: “Created by women for women, we have pledged all of our resources, talents and skills to ensure the success of the mission of the YWCA: eliminating racism empowering women.
I reached out to Amanda Ceravolo at the YWCA and here’s what she had to say about our donation: “We are so very grateful to the 100 Women Who Care of Michiana! Their generous donation of $1800 will be used to support critical emergency shelter services including safe shelter, food, counseling, and childcare. YWCA North Central Indiana helps nearly 4,000 women and children each year who are struggling with violence in their lives and we could not do the work without caring community leaders like you!”
We also heard form Susan Tybon, YWCANCIN CEO, and she added “During this challenging time, we are tasked with not only keeping women and children safe from abuse but also safe from COVID-19. It is heartwarming to know we are not in this fight alone and we humbled by the generosity of caring individuals in our community.”
That is our impact on the YWCA today, but who will we help tomorrow? You will have to join us for our next meeting to find out!
Our fourth quarter meeting will be held at Papa Vino’s in Mishawaka on October 12th at 5:30 PM. Check our website and Facebook page for details. Not a member of 100 Women Michiana?
